Selecting a Santa Barbara wedding photographer should be done with patience. You won't be able to have a tasting when it comes to your wedding photographs. And no photographer is going show you there so-so photographs. Patience is needed for two reasons, Santa Barbara is rich in artistic talent, this is especially true when it comes to photography. Santa Barbara is home to Brooks Photography Institute which has attracted gifted artist to the area for decades. "So how do you make an informed decision with so many good choices to select from? Start by discussing with your significant other the type of photography you want.

Fine Art:
Fine art photography is both styled and reality. The photographer controls what the viewer will focus on. This is accomplished with light and focus depth ranges. The couple will be in focus but the background or foreground will not be in focus. Fine art photographers often use film to capture a more dramatic, grainier, dreamier look. Motion tends to look natural in this style of photography. Many fine art photographers shoot black and white photographs. Be sure to ask about traditional wedding portraiture if it is important you; as many fine art photographers do not do portraiture.

Documentary:
A photojournalistic photographer takes mostly spontaneous or candid pictures. They will very sparingly shoot a styled or staged photo. Photojournalistic enjoy telling a story through their lens.

Portraiture:
Styled or posed pictures are considered portraiture. Most couples have portraiture as a keep sake of their wedding day. Their are posed shots of the happy couple, friends and family in front of a couple backdrops. Some portraiture photographers offer a modern twist on wedding portraiture by offering a more dramatic composition. The photographs are often shot at a near by scenic setting like a beach, lake, field of wild flowers or mountains.

Informed by your choice of photography styles, start looking at photographs on-line. There are millions of wedding photographs on-line and you are sure to find several things that you like. Collect 5-10 images you want to mimic or that will inform the photographer of your likes and desires.

With your 5-10 images in hand start looking at the work of local photographers. Compare the photo galleries of local photographers with your 5-10 wish list photographs. This exercise should reveal 3-4 photographers for you to interview. If you don't find 3-4 photographers expand your search.

When you meet with the photographers bring along your 5-10 images to discuss. Be sure to ask the photographer to see some of his latest work something in the studio. You want to review a couple of real weddings this way you are able to ascertain what your complete collection of photos are likely to be.

Discuss the post-production process. What will be delivered and when? Is retouching included in the package? How many images will be delivered? Ask the photographer if you can expect any additional post-production cost?
Always read reviews on prospective wedding service providers, they are a fantastic way to get a fuller picture of the service provide. Reviews are generally written when someone is quite happy or not happy at all with the service or product received. Reviews can be quite informative about how the business operates. Firstly, are there reviews of the business online that are not on the company's website? Does the company respond to reviews ? How do they respond to negative reviews?  Be sure to ask about the negative reviews when meeting with the photographer and listen closely to the response. Do the explanations excepts responsibility and demonstrate an awareness and growth, do they blame others or can they explain why they were not responsible for the negative outcome.

It may feel funny to ask about the negative reviews but it worth the awkwardness to get it right.

Do you like their images and what is it about their photographs you like?
Are you both comfortable with photographers personality, did either of you establish a connection with the photographer?
Are you comfortable with their communication style?
Was the photographer listening well and were all your concerns addressed?
How did they handle the questions regarding the negative reviews?

These tips should help you!
